Shamira Smith is a graduate student at Capella University in the master’s program for Marriage and Family Therapy and a member of two honors societies for that program (Delta Kappa International Marriage and Family Therapy Honor Society and Chi Upsilon Chi Chapter of Chi Sigma Iota). Upon completion of her degree, Shamira plans to continue working under supervision to obtain licensure while also pursuing certification in Play Therapy.
Shamira is a Marriage and Family Therapist Intern at Perkins Counseling and Psychological Services. As a student and full-time employee, Shamira understands and appreciates the significance of cultivating solid relationships while balancing the challenges of life. As a Solution-Focused Therapist, Shamira aims to create a safe, non-judgmental, and warm environment for clients to ensure that there are collaborative efforts put forth into reshaping the perspectives and lives of clients. Shamira helps clients identify weaknesses, build on their strengths, and discover solutions that help cultivate a fulfilling life.
Shamira enjoys working with children, teens, individuals, and couples. Working with a diverse population has afforded her the opportunity to broaden horizons and build an understanding of how important it is to integrate and respect differences to help clients heal. Shamira has been told by others that she has a calming voice with a warm personality that invites others to share in her empathy, authenticity, and joy. Shamira is supervised at Perkins Counseling and Psychological Services by Areinia Adams, LMFT, AAMFT Approved Supervisor.
Shamira is looking forward to meeting you. In her free time, she enjoys watching musicals, spending time with her family, and trying new things such as horseback riding.
