Selena Waite is a Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Psychological Associate and Licensed School Psychologist. She earned her M.A. in General Psychology with a Certificate of Advanced Study in School Psychology from East Carolina University. She also holds a B.A. in Psychology and a B.A. in Sociology from North Carolina Wesleyan College. Since earning her M.A., Selena has chosen to expand her knowledge and expertise through continuing education in Career Counseling and Group Counseling Theory and Technique.

Selena has 10 years of experience in providing counseling services to children and adolescents experiencing a variety of mental health, behavioral, emotional and adjustment issues. Her experience as a School Psychologist provides her with expertise in working with families to cope with, understand and support their child who may be experiencing learning, behavioral and/or social/emotional difficulties within the school setting. She is skilled in working with children, adults, and families who want to work on issues related to ADHD, anxiety, depression, behavioral social/emotional concerns, parenting issues, career exploration, and family adjustment. She is especially enthusiastic about working with individuals, families, and groups to identify areas of strength and weakness and to set goals that build upon identified strengths which are essential to clients in making positive changes in their lives. Selena enjoys facilitating one to three-day workshops for parents and young adults who are interested in gaining skills and knowledge that can help to reduce stress and improve the quality of their lives (i.e., parenting classes, healthy communication in relationships, effective discipline, effective organizational skills, etc.).

When establishing a therapeutic relationship, she prides herself on creating an environment of relaxation and openness that ensures a non-judgmental atmosphere is provided for each client. Selena utilizes a client-centered approach that incorporates cognitive behavioral techniques, mindfulness strategies, and solution-focused methodologies. Selena is certified in Triple P Positive Parenting levels 2, 3, 4 and 5. As such, Selena provides short-term structured, research-based parent skills coaching, for new parents learning to cope with stressors related to parenting infants and toddlers, not so new parents coping with knowing how to handle their children’s minor to serious behavioral problems, and parents of children with developmental/mental health disabilities.
