Nick DeJesus is a NC Licensed Professional Counselor, a National Certified Counselor, and a Ph.D. candidate with a major in Counselor Education and Supervision at Oregon State University. Nick has obtained a theological degree (MDiv) from Campbell University Divinity School and the Master of Arts degree in Mental Health Counseling from Campbell University.
Nick works with adolescents and adults experiencing trauma, anger management, anxiety, chronic pain or illness, depression, and grief, and he specializes in sexuality, relationships and intimacy, gender identity development, sexual expression, and sexual addiction. He has presented at national conferences, local churches, and organizations on issues related to mental health. He is an active LGBTQIQ ally.
Nick has been trained in and utilizes a variety psychotherapy, including: psychoanalysis, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), internal family systems (IFS), and mindfulness based techniques. A tailored approach to an individual’s unique needs works best, so he draws on his doctoral research in relationships and sexuality, clinical training in crisis treatment, and years of experience in individual and couples counseling to develop an unique plan for each client.
Psychotherapy is fundamentally a relationship, which is it is important to find a good match between client and therapist. Nick is open, warm, and engaging. He listens intently, asks pertinent questions, and offers insight to foster an atmosphere of self exploration and learning. He seeks to hear what the client is trying to communicate, so together they can process and understand the core issues hindering the client and work to resolve them. Nick’s greatest desire is for an individual to leave a session heard, understood, and supported.
In his spare time, Nick enjoys adventures with his daughter and hiking with his lab. Kayaking on a lake or in the ocean sound is where Nick often retreats for personal formation and renewal. Nick is an eastern NC native and has a diverse ethnic background with family blended from local American Indian tribes and Puerto Rico.
