Nelson Louis is a native New Yorker who graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Brooklyn College in Television and Radio. After realizing he had a special gift and a deeper purpose to help others, he pursued his master’s degree in Social Work at Stony Brook University with a specialization in Student Community Development.
He now resides in North Carolina and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist (LCAS). As a therapist, he has worked with clients in schools, communities, and office settings for over a decade. He enjoys working with children with ADHD and ODD and with children who have experienced physical and sexual abuse. He also works with adults who are dealing with substance misuse, mood disorders such as Depression, Bipolar Disorder, personality problems, and adults with dual diagnoses and behavioral problems.
He has provided Individual Substance Abuse Intensive Therapy in an outpatient program and family therapy, with an overall goal to enhance and foster people’s optimal functioning to meet their goals.
He employs several therapeutic intervention models including motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, and person-centered therapy, and is always considering clients’ and families’ strengths.
Nelson has a calm, laid back demeanor with a good sense of humor and infectious laugh. Nelson is always willing to offer a helping hand and often goes out of his way for others’ well-being.
Nelson is married with 3 young kids who keep him very busy in his free time. Nelson enjoys watching sports, reading books, and spending time with his family outdoors.
