Liz has 7 years of previous pediatric nursing experience, ranging from intensive care, to cardiac, to pediatric oncology/bone marrow transplant, to outpatient neurology and mental health. During her MSN coursework at Duke, Liz was one of the first students to take part in the Pediatric Mental and Behavioral Health Specialty program, which provided additional coursework and numerous clinical hours specializing in Pediatric Mental Health diagnosis, treatment and medication management. Prior to becoming a nurse, Liz earned a degree in Elementary Education from Carroll University in Waukesha, WI in 2009 and taught kindergarten for two years.
Liz works with ages birth – 21 and has experience in Autism, Anxiety, Depression, Substance Use, Eating Disorders among other pediatric mental health conditions. She is incredibly passionate about Pediatric Mental Health and recognizes the need for the health care sector to recognize, diagnose and treat these conditions in our pediatric and adolescent patients, as so many times they slip through the cracks and are left untreated. Liz believes that all children and families that she sees can benefit from her care, and her goal is to be as patient/family-centered as possible, integrating the patient and family, school, and community as needed. She seeks to combine medication management with other therapies and treatment modalities and strongly abides by the most updated research in the ever changing mental health community.
Outside of nursing, Liz lives with her husband and cat in the Raleigh area and has lived in North Carolina for 8 years. Prior to relocating to NC, Liz was born and raised in Wisconsin and is a true Badger/Packer fan. Liz and her husband love watching sports, especially college basketball, even though Liz is a tried and true Duke Blue Devil fan and her husband roots for the UNC Tarheels….. truly a house divided. Liz also enjoys visiting her family and friends back in WI, traveling, and trying new restaurants in the area with her husband and friends. She also plays the trumpet in the Durham Medical Orchestra!
