She has 8 years of experience working with substance abuse/addiction. She has been employed in both outpatient clinics and inpatient hospital settings as well as in non-profit populations.
Her approach to counseling involves fixing faulty beliefs. She believes our thoughts about a situation can be changed even if the situation we are currently in cannot be. The type of therapy she uses most often is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy where the goal is to change the irrational beliefs and assumptions that a client has in order to facilitate a behavioral or emotional change. She aims to eliminate the negative patterns in your life by challenging you to be aware of the way you feel and behave. She uses reality therapy as well in order to stress the importance of your accountability in this process. When working with families, she uses a multi-systemic approach which stresses the importance of how each individual within the family affects one another. It focuses on interpersonal interactions.
Erin grew up in West Virginia and moved around a lot throughout her young adulthood. Her family and her moved to Wake Forest in 2013. She is married with two young children.
