Dr. Melissa Jackson graduated with her Master and Doctorate of Psychology in Clinical Psychology from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, with a concentration in forensic psychology. She completed her internship at the Federal Correctional Complex in Butner, North Carolina. She recently finished her postdoctoral year at Southern Virginia Mental Health Institute in Danville, Virginia. She is also licensed as a clinical psychologist in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Dr. Jackson has a variety of experience in many different settings, with a wide range of client populations and ages. She has had training with children and adolescents with behavioral disorders, such as ADHD and Oppositional Defiant Disorder. This also included parent training and psychoeducational assessments for possible school accommodations.

Dr. Jackson particularly enjoys treating mood and anxiety disorders, substance abuse, personality disorders, grief and loss, and those with difficulties managing their anger. Dr. Jackson also has much training in conducting forensic assessments and general psychological assessments. Dr. Jackson practices utilizing mostly cognitive-behavioral therapy techniques but believes in an integrative approach which says each client is different and treatment must be tailored to each individual’s needs. She is also a firm believer that motivation is the key to success within the therapeutic process, and she works to maintain a high level of motivation within the client.

A fun fact about Dr. Jackson is that she was born in Alaska, a result of being a part of a military family. However, she moved to Virginia Beach at age seven and considers this “home.” Outside of work, Dr. Jackson enjoys spending time with her family and friends, hiking, and traveling.
