Areinia Adams is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with 8 years of experience working within the mental health field. She received her Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Capella University in 2013 and a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from The City College of New York.
Areinia has extensive experience working with adults, children, and families providing therapy in homes, in communities, and in outpatient agencies through community based services. She has experience conducting clinical assessments and group therapy and is experienced treating anxiety, depression, bi-polar disorder, marital and family issues, self-esteem issues, schizophrenia, Borderline personality disorder, substance use, self-harm, and behavioral disorders.
Areinia believes that therapy should be non-judgmental and person-centered. She believes it should be a place where the client/families and the therapist can work together to identify triggers, understand what has or what has not worked in the past, and find new solutions for solving issues they experience. She uses Solution Focused Therapy and has experience using modalities such as Illness Management Recovery, Seeking Safety, Motivational Interviewing and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. She works with the client/families to decrease or eliminate damaging behaviors that may create a barrier to recovery, and she seeks to distinguish strengths and weaknesses as a part of the recovery process. She believes that individuals are impacted by the people they interact with on a daily basis, and she uses a family therapy systemic approach.
In addition to outpatient therapeutic services, Areinia is also a counselor with the Life Care Team at her church and is the current facilitator of the premarital counseling classes.
