Dr. Pamela S. Perkins, PsyD

PamDr. Pamela Perkins earned her master’s and doctoral degrees in Clinical Psychology from Wheaton College Graduate School in Wheaton, Illinois.   Her undergraduate degree in Theology and Education is from Concordia University, River Forest, Illinois.

Dr. Perkins has extensive experience in conducting psychological assessments as well as therapy.

She has conducted evaluations for bariatric surgical candidates for over six years and works closely with the area’s bariatric surgeons. She is an Associate member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) and seeks ongoing education to best serve her patients.

Dr. Perkins also provides evaluations for immigrants who are seeking an exception to the English and civics testing requirements for naturalization because of a cognitive or mental impairment (Form N-648).

A cognitive screening is available for older adults worried about their memory. Dr. Perkins developed this screening as a short and simple way to determine if memory problems are part of the normal aging process, or if they warrant further investigation. The screening takes about two hours and a short report is written for you to take to your primary care physician for follow up. Medicare usually covers the cost of this testing.

In addition to psychological assessments and therapy, Dr. Perkins is available to speak or consult on a number of psychological and mental health topics.  She has particular interests in topics related to older adults, mood disorders, domestic violence, bariatric surgery, caregiver burnout, and most anything to do with mental health.

Dr. Perkins loves sharing her expertise and experience with others and does so through supervision services. She is approved to provide supervision for Provisionally Licensed Psychologists, Licensed Psychological Associates (LPA), and Licensed Professional Counselor Associates (LPCA). She offers reasonable rates and a collaborative approach in supervision.

Colleagues and clients alike find her to be open, warm and genuine, with a sense of humor and contagious laugh.  A flexible person-centered style is utilized in her therapy services and a practical, solution-focused approach when conducting evaluations.

Dr. Perkins is a professional member of the American Psychological Association (APA), the North Carolina Psychological Association (NCPA), and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS). She follows the APA Code of Ethics in her work with clients and colleagues.

She lives in Wake Forest with her husband Rich and their dog Toby.  Having raised three sons, she often comments, “I raised three boys with ADHD, I can handle anything!” The sons are now grown up and we are blessed with additions to our family: two “daughters,” three beautiful granddaughters and a handsome grandson.
